Hey Kim, I love this idea for a project! Please tell us how the cards came out. Can you post any photos? I've been trying to find paper stocks to do this very thing, but I'm still in the early research phase. I can't wait to hear and see how it turned out.

Nice!! I love the flames that you added - the tattoo was simplified nicely but your original design was very elegant as well :D

Definitely continue with the optical conflict. I think that you will get a stronger effect if the elements are very bold. Maybe create the contour a boldly-reduced typeface by allowing the definition of the individual letters to emerge through alternating black/white elements?

Yeah, that definitely helps, especially your point about representing the antagonizing scale. The idea was to create an optical conflict between reading the white and black type, but from what it sounds, I need more overall contrast.

Thanks for the observations! And feel free to let me know if I'm misinterpreting you at all.

Hey Kim,

Just some thoughts -

Consider: "Opposite" is relative and dichotomous. Emphasize polarity. Black/white, positive/negative, large/small. The halftone and transition lines within the type create a mesh-like graying effect. I think that your choice to convey harmony is a good place to start, but be careful to also represent antagonizing scale - so as not to diminish the opposition.

Is that useful?
